Title: Scalia unanimous decision
Published: Ventura County Reporter
Date: Feb. 19, 2016
About this cartoon: Antonin Scalia, the very conservative Supreme Court justice, died unexpectedly, leaving the court in a 4-4 split between liberals and conservatives. Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, vowed not to move any replacement nomination forward, citing a "rule" he made up about not confirming any justices in an election year; of course, he did not want a Democrat nominating a fifth liberal, and the Republican Party rallied around the cause, blocking Obama's very moderate and highly qualified nominee, Merrick Garland and largely refusing even to meet with him.
